Antonio López-Istúriz White has been a Spanish Member of the European Parliament for the European People’s Party since 2004. With a political career spanning more than two decades in the European Parliament, he has focused his work on foreign policy, human rights, and transatlantic relations.
He is currently Chair of the Delegation for Relations with Mexico (D-MX). He is also a member of the Delegation for Relations with the United States (D-US), the Delegation for Relations with Israel (D-IL), the Delegation for Relations with the Arabian Peninsula (DARP), and the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (DLAT). In addition, he is a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI), and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON).
His political experience has been complemented by extensive work in the international arena. From 2002 to 2022 he served as Secretary-General of the European People’s Party (EPP), coordinating the actions of member parties and organizing EPP summits of heads of state and government. Since 2019, he has also served as Secretary-General of the Centrist Democrat International (IDC-CDI), the world’s largest centre and centre-right political organization, which brings together more than 90 parties across all continents. He is also Secretary-Treasurer of the Martens Centre, the EPP’s official think tank.
Before joining the European Parliament, he worked in the Office of the President of Spain, José María Aznar (1999–2002), and previously as a parliamentary assistant in Brussels (1997–1999).
